What is CIIE

The China International Import Expo is a trade fair held in Shanghai, China. It is the world’s first import-themed national-level expo featuring exhibitions from multiple countries and businesses.


Many international brands from the beauty, fashion, technology, agriculture and FMCG sectors participate yearly. They are there to showcase their latest innovations, goods & services and also show their commitment to the China market.

For first-time brands, here are our 3 top tips for getting the best out of this event:


  1. While being an international trade event, assuming English is the primary language will only get you so far. Chinese is an essential part of this event, as the Chinese not only host it, but many of the buyers there will be Chinese, so it’s necessary to speak the language to ensure your message and terms are understood. 

  2. Prepare to stand out and spend some money on your display. A well-presented and professional stand says a lot about who you are and your seriousness about doing business. More than pull-up banners and pamphlets are needed for this event as you showcase to the world. 

  3. Pre-marketing, event marketing and post-marketing are also essential to build hype, engage with potential customers and stay connected once it’s all over. Our favourite platform recommendations are Little Red Book and WeChat. Aside from marketing on these platforms, make them a part of your customer engagement strategy during the event, and provide clients with a QR code for easy following.
