The search is on for Australian-based content creators to share stories about China.

Are you based in Australia and love to share stories about Chinese culture, language, history, traditions, and values? If so, we invite you to enter the “When Koala Meets Panda” competition.

What is the “When Koala Meets Panda” competition?

 

Calling all storytellers, it’s time to make your mark on a global stage. The Koala Meets Panda competition invites you to embark on a journey of creative expression centred around the reunion between Australia and China in a post-pandemic world.

 

Craft a short video that delves into the heart of friendship, culture and the beauty of cross-cultural sharing. Whether you choose to explore personal experiences, traditions, or connections that bridge the gap between these two nations, your unique perspective is what we’re seeking.

 

As you pour your creativity into your video, imagine the possibilities that lie ahead. A magnificent prize pool awaits the winners – envision yourself jetting off to China, immersing in its rich heritage and modern wonders. Beyond that, substantial cash rewards and esteemed awards are also on the horizon.

 

This competition isn’t just about crafting videos; it’s about shaping narratives, fostering understanding, and celebrating the dynamic relationship between two diverse cultures. Who can enter?

The competition is open to anyone living in Australia and passionate about sharing stories about China.

 

Video content should be in either English or Chinese with English subtitles. 

 

How to enter?

Upload your content to your preferred social media channel and send us a link to your story about Chinese culture, language, history, traditions, and values (in Chinese).

 

Your video should meet the following criteria:

 

  1. Format: MP4 (1080p)
  2. No longer than 3minutes
  3. The topic is a reunion between China and Australia

There is no restriction on the genre of the video, which can include topics such as travel, language, culture, or even a personal story or talent.

 

There is also no limit on the type of video presentation, which could include anything from talking to the camera, a guided tour, drawing, dancing, animation, or singing. The sky is the limit!

 

The video can be filmed with a mobile phone or professional device.

 

Contestants can choose one or more social media channels to post their video, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tik-Tok and Xiaohongshu and must use the following hashtag #koalameetspanda and @ the following accounts:

Awards and Prizes

The short video contest will generate twelve Outstanding Awards, 4 Individual Awards and one Most Popular in China Award.

 

The 4 Individual winners will also advance to the Most Popular in China finale. The ultimate victor will be determined by the entry that garners the most views on social media platforms in China.

 

Prizes include;

Most Popular in China Award: Trophy, $1,000 + one-week cultural trip to China.

Individual Award: $1,000 + Certificate.

Outstanding Award: $200 + Certificate.

Conference Schedule

  • 1st September, 2023 – 30th November, 2023: Short video submission period.
  • 1st December, 2023 – 5th December, 2023: Short video finalist selection period.
  • 6th December, 2023 – 15th December, 2023: Professional judging panel will select 4 individual awards.
  • 16th December, 2021 – 15th January, 2024: The individual award announcements will be published on Chinese social media platforms, thus launching the number of views  competition which finishes on 15th January, 2024
  • 16th January, 2022: Views on Chinese social media platforms will be calculated.
  • Mid-January 2024:  The awards ceremony will take place in Brisbane.
